Construction is under way for Hollywood actor Mark Wahlberg's new Beverly Hills mansion, which includes his personal water park.
The actor purchased six acres in the Beverly Park community for $8 million in 2009 and hired celebrity-friendly architect Richard Landry to design the new home. Mr. Landry has designed homes for entertainment mogul Haim Saban, Wayne Gretzky, Sugar Ray Leonard, Rod Stewart, and the sprawling mansion for Tom Brady and Gisele Bündchen.
For Mr. Wahlberg's property, the architect's goal was to find the "right proportions," Mr. Landry told The Hollywood Reporter.
"It is not about building bigger and bigger homes," Mr. Landry said. "There are no ginormous rooms here -- there's no ballroom, no bowling alley, no indoor basketball court. I've done most of those kinds of things in other projects, but here it's really a good traditional family house with no craziness to it."
There may be no bowling alley, but the castle-like home is an upgrade for Mr. Wahlberg, his wife Rhea Durham and their four children. Last month Mr. Wahlberg sold his 11,500-square-foot Beverly Hills mansion for $12.995.
The new 30,000-square-foot French manor includes a home theater, a wine cellar with wrought iron doors, large gym, and a two-story wood-paneled library, according to the Daily Mail. The property features a full-sized outdoor basketball court, putting green, and a 2,200-square-foot outdoor loggia with "coffered" ceilings, limestone floors and a fireplace, the paper reports.
But the highlight is a man-made rock formation water park. The water feature includes waterfalls and plenty of rocks for diving, the Mail reports.
Formerly known as Marky Mark, Mr. Wahlberg transitioned into acting and is known for his roles in "Boogie Nights," "The Departed," "Ted" and "Pain & Gain," among others. He is also a successful producer, including the series "Entourage." With an estimated net worth of $200 million, he stars in the upcoming film "Lone Survivor."
